My name is Mr Hornby and I am the teacher at Solway Primary school in Masterton, New Zealand. Masterton is about 1.5 hours drive north of Wellington (the capital city). Our class is called Kauri, all of our classes are named after native New Zealand trees. We are a year 5/6 class (9-11year olds)with 24 students in the class. We are hoping to start a link with your class to get to know what it is like in Scotland. Mrs Chalmers and I will be working out some ways that we can get to know each other.

In the weekend my dad went to a man's place to pick up a new netball hoop.
It was huge! I could only get 2 goal, my sister got none, my mum got about 5 and
my dad only got about 4 goals. It was a fun weekend.

In the weekend Haylee picked me up to go quad biking at Haylee's friends house .We went on a couple of course's and when we went up a hill the quad bike tipped and it was scarey. We were so muddy and then we went in side for dinner.

Hi in the weekend I played hockey for the Wairarapa rep team. We played 2 games. We won the first game but we drew the second game, then we went home.

In the weekend I had my sleepover party for my birthday which was actually on the Thursday that week. Chelsea, Claudia and Kendyll came and my Nana came down from the Hawke's Bay - Taradale. We went to the pools and we played the goggle game which was really cool because we played it in the deep end and we had to dive down to the bottom of the pool to get them. Claudia almost drowned because she ran out of breath at the bottom of the pool and when she got up to the top of the pool she was panting really furiously. I drew on Claudia's face in the middle of the night when she was fast asleep which was really fun.

We found these bits of wood and we put grated lemon skin on them and made these pretend appertizers, it was so funny. Then i found this really soggy plaster and I was plastering everything. Hello Everyone,

At Morrisons (one of Scotlands Major Stores) they are selling 4GB SD Cards for 7 Pounds (there is not a sterling symbol on the keyboard) which is about $17.
I thought this oppurtunity is not to be missed so I thought we could buy some for the school (please respond to this post saying if you want us to do this or not) and you could pay us when we get back (we only have 3 days so please hurry).

Last Weekend, My brother had a Soccer game.He plays for Masterton Intermediate School.After his game, we visited
a few bookshops in town.In Paper Plus, my mum bought me a new book.
I can't wait to read it!
After visiting Hedleys, Paper Plus and Hunting and Fishing, we had Morning Tea/Lunch
at The ten o'clock cookie.I had a mince 'n' cheese pie and an iced chocolate.{Iced chocolates are SO NICE!! especially at the ten o'clock cookie!!!}
After that, we picked up my brothers friend to stay the night.For dinner, we had sausages
and baked potatoes with a side of vegetables.After a yummy but appetizing tea, we watched a movie called: Hot Fuzz.
It was AWESOME and action packed. But I would recommend no small children to watch it.
Hot Fuzz finished at 10:50pm.
On Sunday, I went to my neighbours house.I groomed her horse.Her horses name is Liv.
LIV IS THE SWEETEST HORSE YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE! She shined after half an hours grooming.Pip is her owners name.Pip said I did a really good job.

In the holidays I went to Auckland and I went to snow planet skiing but at the the top it goes steep and it is funny because down the bottom it s not as steep.on the next day we went shopping .I got a jacket and some jeans .when we were going home we stoped in Hamilton for the night and then the next day we drove to Napier and we saw my cousins and my uncle and grand dad .

we have also justed ended are school holidays good times good times as you may know from what i just said I had a good time in the holidays it was really cool I went to slavas snow show which included funny clowns ,songs ,music ,creativity and of course fake little bits of snow and huge bouncy balls that they pushed into the crowd they had about 4 of thouse big ones and 6 little ones it was brilliant they passed a huge spiderweb through the audience.
I also painted some pottery that was cool i decided to give my seahorse that I painted to my mum for her birthday it took aboult three hours for that because me and Anya decided to be very carefull did I mention anya was doing a bumble bee for her painting except shes keeping hers.

In the holidays I went to Napier to visit my Nana and grandad. Mum and Lou had to go home early because mum had another sinus infection.But the good side of that was I got to stay longer. My Nana and grandad had to work during the day so I went to my friends house her name is Chayne. We were bored so we decided to clean out the sleep out. I had to clean all the fly poo off the roof. We had to scrub the walls and vacuum the floor. We had finished all of that then we had to paint the shelves a baby blue kind of colour. We thought that it looked empty so we decided to bring some of the furniture from the garage into there. Now it looks cool and we feel more safe being in there.

Keeping up with the blog!!!!!!

(Sorry how the pictures go all over the place)

Since I last wrote to you I have been to Balmoral Castle, The Falkirk Wheel,Satrosphere the Science Museum, along the top part of the beach in Aberdeen, and have just arrived in Stirling.

I will explain a little about each of them:

Balmoral Castle is the Scottish home to the British Royal Family and you can find out more about it
at www.balmoralcastle.com.
While we were there we walked round the garden and grounds ,went to the buildings where they kept the artefacts,and bought lunch at the cafe.
The Falkirk Wheel is some kind of waste of money that the government could of spent on helping the Global Credit Crunch Thingy and if you go to the website,which is by the way www.thefalkirkwheel.co.uk,dont get too excited by what it says.


Now we can move onto Satrosphere-
Its a Kids Science museum by the beach in Aberdeen.
It studys all the things we do at school except in a funkier format to draw peoples attention-
I got some pictures of various exhibits and the experimental shows with one really cool
one about Volcanoes.

I thought I should mention to you I stopped writing this blog for a day so in that time we visited
The Wallace Monument, and Stirling Castle.

Hi Everyone,
I am writing this from Elrick Primary School in Elrick,Aberdeenshire.My cousin Jill teaches here so we are visiting a yr 2-3 class.

Thanks for sending in the photos Mr Hornby-they were really interested in the swimming pool.

It is Friday here and is the last day of school with them so they were doing a "concert" sort of thingy.I will attach sdome clips of that when I finish writing.
Has anyoneheard of a smartboard?They are a white board with a USB socket and speakers that you plug into a projector.Every class here has omne-it is really cool.

Also here the classes are "open-plan" so each class is just marked out of a big room with a bookshelf or something.

We were pushed for time so I didnt get to do everything I wanted to but it was cool visiting another cschool anyway.
Another thing I found interesting was the times-each class starts at 9 am but the seniors end 20 pt 3 and the juniors end 2:45.

We arrived in Scotland yesterday but cannot find a wireless system to connect to where we are staying.

Last weekend i went to my friends house for the night and we went to the swimming polls and then went back and watched a movie and then we stayed up nearly until mid night and then we woke up at night time and then we had a mid night fest on chocolate and in the morning we had eaten it all and in the morning we had pancakes with more chocolate and then we went to school to walk the dog and then we went to drop of Lucy and then they dropped me of at home.

Hey Lily here I have been so excited about inter school cross country.I am hoping to get in to the final cross country in Wellington. OK that is about all of cross country now to the vege and fruit business this term we went to the pak'n'save and learnt alot about eating the right thing at the right time about protien,energy,carbohydrates,fat,vitamins,minarals,iron,fibre and calcium.

It is still raining here and a phew days ago it snowed for like 5 seconds.But it was fun well it lasted but it didn't last long it didn't even settle because it was to wet to settle it didn't snow at are house it only sleeted for a while we had to put the fire on and the kettle for mum.

It has been cold but where still moving around the class room... well.......... HARDLY!
But the cold weather still means school and school still means work.

lucy and shannon came to stay for the night we bought some yummy things from the dairy lucy also bought some jelly , salt and vineguer chips and fredo bars we didnt eat them all at the same time of course we bairley at all of them. We watched a movie before bed.

At school we have still been doing the same things some new things that are fun but some are still just the same.

It's monday it's wet and it's not really the same but that is how I like it.

Hi Again-I've just signed in again on my google account(thanks Mr Hornby),and am just updating things for the family webpages-no one uses it so I don't know why I bother-but sometimes you don't expect people to do things when its not that appealing anyway.I am also setting up a radio show at ODC-it is a comedy ad-libbing sort of thing so I think I will need to practise lots-recording comedy is not my thing!At ODC we are also learning Spanish-but all I do is doodle on the workbook and write down anything I think I'll use.

At school I'm trying to get to know the computers-the card reader is the most complicated thing in the world!That's because I'm used to a laptop-you just stick the card in the side and you download them to my documents and you're done;I just don't see whats so great about this-its harder for new people to learn and you need to set heaps of things up in advance(which some people might not know how to do).Anyway I think I've stated my case;so ends this paragraph.

Actually I've just had a thought-we could put a recording of my radio show on this blog-then everyone could listen to what an excellent comedian I am not!

Now-photography,I am trying to develop in the macro setting area-I think I am getting to unusual that it comes out horribly.I think I will need to keep it simple-just grass,sand,and flowers.The photo above is not a macro-its a sunrise pic I took in 2008-if you look at that I 've improved alot-but I'm still not able to face some New Zealands worst professional photographers(you wouldn't expect me to either-I'm just a kid).
